SPONSORED VIDEO: BEAT THAT HOCKEY GEAR STINK

For all my hockey mom whining, the truth is, I love pretty much everything about watching the kid play. It’s the Before and After that sucks. I can deal with the Before: Slapping together an early meal, checking the gear made it into the bag, stopping for skate sharpening. It’s nothing compared to the After.

At least with the Before, I’m looking forward to an hour of play next to my hockey mom and dad compadres in a rink that sells popcorn and maybe even beer.

Once the game is over, though, the After stinks – literally. As soon as the kid heads in my general direction, I’m repelled by the smell. Then, lucky me, I can look forward to that awful hockey reek permeating every crevice of car while I drive home, nodding as the kid gives a play-by-play. I can’t answer because I’m holding my breath.

With the disgusting gear zipped in his bag, I’ve got a long ride to endure with the kid’s hockey hair and hockey hands. It’s all that sweat trapped beneath the helmet and gloves for the hour he was on the ice. And I can count on the stink to stay with him, and me, and everything he gets near, until he’s safely in a shower and we can all breathe again.

Briefly.

As every hockey mom knows well, the kid’s body may be easy to clean but his gear is not. You can toss the jerseys and socks in the wash and air out the rest on the porch, yes. But good luck finding a way to un-stink the helmet, gloves, skates and all the rest of the stuff that protects him and assaults the rest of us. I’ve tried everything from stuffing fabric softener sheets in the gloves to baby powder in the helmet and all that happens is I end up smelly, too.

So what’s a hockey mom to do? At this point, I’ll try just about anything. Which is why I’m sharing my newest find: HEX Performance. Watch this video and you’ll see why it’s time to take the war on hockey stink to the next level – with extreme measures. Plus, it’ll make you laugh. Do me and everyone around you a favour, and share this one. Some other hockey mom somewhere, holding her nose and her breath, will thank you. Trust me on that.
